That’s what authors in general do. They work for years without getting a penny for it. That includes myself.

And the worst part of that is not even not being paid for it, but the lack of recognition this kind of work has. No one really understands what you are doing and why you are so obsessed with it. For most people, if you don’t end the month with money in your pocket, then you don’t have a real job or your work is not really serious.

Now, a decade later, my first book is out, and the second one is coming by October this year. During all this time, I went through all possible humiliating situations, generally when people asked me what my job was. Besides that, I had to let many things and plans for my life go as I invested all my time and energy in my book.

And you know what? I’d go through everything again—all sacrifices, all privations, all the humiliation. And that’s because I really believe in my book and its potential, and also because I believe the world is a little better place having my book in it. I think that those are the fundamental beliefs anyone must have to invest themselves in their dreams.
