What’s a secret skill or ability you have or wish you had?

The biggest skill someone can have is to make people smile amid the tragedies of their lives.

In my book, there’s a scene where Erendiara, Johnny’s close friend, is severely humiliated in public. That makes her get into despair and flee away to her bedroom. Then this happens:

Excerpt from the Occult Arts chapter

Erendiara felt her soul melting within her. It seemed everyone knew about her incident at the kingdom of Replen. Lizard girl? Is this how they call me now? echoed in her mind as she sprinted off the garden and tears streamed down her face.

Johnny pursued her, calling out her name and attempting to catch up with her, but his efforts were in vain. She had pulled too far ahead, leaving him with no choice but to let her name echo through the hallways of the Mountain’s second floor, hoping she would stop and talk to him.

Many things were going through Erendiara’s mind, but to stop and talk with someone was not among the thoughts storming it; she just wanted to be alone and forgotten. Upon reaching her bedroom, she opened its door and slammed it behind her.

The noise resonated so loudly that it startled Johnny, bringing him to a halt as if something had slapped his face. But he could not leave her alone. He went to his bedroom and invoked his book Names of Manah. Since he had Erendiara’s totem in his Medilatrix, he sent her something better and safer than words.

As Erendiara wept with her face buried in her arms on the bed’s edge, she felt her bracelet vibrating. She invoked her book and opened it on the Medilatrix, being surprised by dozens of fireworks that came from it blossoming in the air as they turned into flowers that covered everything around her. A smile widened the tear lines on her face as she looked at the “colored carpet” adorning her bedroom.

Johnny wasn’t part of Cassandra’s extra activity, but despite this, he had performed one of the most challenging arts known in both worlds: making someone smile amid the bad times of life.
