So here is the second chapter of my draft of Children of God. The first chapter is here.
After reading it, leave in the comments what biblical superpower you think Vinncy will get from the old prophets.
Heart of Lion
Cold water gushed into a face, almost suffocating and causing the back of a throat to burn as Todd Stumber pressed Vinncy’s head against the school’s drinking fountain. Guffaws echoed in the school hallway as a symphony of shame. Todd let Vinncy’s head go with a jab and walked through the hallway with his friends hailing him as if he had scored in a game.
Vinncy was angry, but not enough to muster courage for revenge. His thin body was barely strong enough to carry his weight; his arms were so weak that even its veins were more salient and bigger than its muscles.
After recollecting himself, Vinncy headed to the classroom under dozens of debauched gazes. But it did not take long for him to come across his foe again, but now he was tormenting a girl. “Come on, Alicia. It’s just a kiss…”
Vinncy felt as if his eyes were stung. Alicia was his crush, his favorite impossible dream. He knew he was incapable of helping her, but also knew he incapable of remaining silent before abuses and injustices.
“I just need to feel your lips…,” Todd said, pressing Alicia’s shoulders.
Squirming, Alicia tried to get rid of his hands, but the lockers behind her limited her movements. “Leave me alone, Todd, please!” she said, clenching her teeth.
Taking a deep breath, Vinncy approached Todd from his backs. “Hey Todd, leave her alone!” he said in a tone incapable of frightening even a roach.
Incredulously, Todd let of Alicia and turned around. “What did you say, you little piece of crap?” he said.
Vinncy swallowed hard. “Leave her alone,” he said, dodging a stutter.
Todd took a step. Vinncy felt his mentholated breath. “I think that now I have to wash your face with blood,” he said as his friends surrounded Vinncy like wolves.
Holding her notebooks, Alicia tried to keep Todd from the shrugged Vinncy. “Stop it, Todd. You’re five times bigger than him. It’s not fair!” she said.
Todd looked at her. “So do you think that I am a big guy, huh?” he said, his eyebrows dancing.
Alicia touched Todd’s chest kindly. “Just forget it all, baby,” she said kindly in a try to calm him down.
Vinncy was jealous and feeling even worse; a girl was defending him, the girl he was supposed to protect. He felt as if his dignity had been buried and trodden over.
Todd poked Vinncy’s chest. “Thank her for your life! But next time…” he paused. “I hope you like red.”
Feeling a mix of relief and shame, Vinncy stepped back, speechless.
“Where do you think you’re going?” Todd said roughly. “Guys, to the locker with him!”
“What?” Vinncy said as Todd’s friends laid hands on him and shoved him into the locker amid guffaws. During his seventeen years of life, Vinncy had collected dozens of embarrassing moments, but he would remember this one forever as the worst.
Leaving the school, Vinncy argued with himself. “So much shame for nothing,” he thought. “Not actually for nothing; now I’m a complete loser in Alicia’s eyes,” he sighed.
Vinncy’s thoughts were comprehensible since no one never told him how beautiful it was his passion for justice, or how rare it was to find a lad so honored and brave like him. However, he was worthy before God’s eyes, even famous among the angels, and described in the heavenly book of the life as ‘heart of lion.’
