Everything started in 2021. My dad got COVID and spent 8 days in the hospital—first admission. Then he came home but started suffering from strong back pain. Three days later we were back in the hospital, this time for a 30-day stay to treat a bacteria infection that attacked his spine—second admission.

In August last year, he started suffering leg pain. Then we went to the hospital again. The diagnosis: a lung infection caused the leg pain as a side effect—third admission. And there went another week spent in the hospital. Then he got back home, and a few days later he started feeling dizzy and confused. Hospital again, this time because he had kidney failure; 10 days in the hospital—fourth admission.

Now he’s back in the hospital due to a domestic accident; he stumbled in the bathroom, fell badly, and broke his hip—fifth admission.

And here I am, 2 weeks into it, taking care of him every night. I’m even writing this post shortly after coming back home after a rough night.

In this whole series, I am not the protagonist; it is my dad. But I’m present in every episode.
