Things are a little better, but today dad scared us. His blood sugar went too low and he became irresponsive. Nurses had to rush out and bring him a glucose shot to make him come back to his senses.

I played with all those things behind me; I’m curious

This situation surprised us since he’s diabetic, a serious one–his glucose levels used to reach 400 (normal levels range from 60 to 120) and beyond until a few days ago.

Now he’s fine within what can be considered fine for his situation. He’s taking strong painkillers and sleeping pills to cope with his pain and discomfort.

What prevents me from panicking about his situation is that every time I come to this place I see people in worst condition. If there’s a place that is not death but close, these poor people are there, a kind of gateway to heaven (I hope), other place or nowhere.

Now I’ll spend the night here, and I cannot sleep (even poorly) this time because I’ll have to keep monitoring my dad’s glucose levels during the night. Yes, the nurses do this, but only at every 2 hours. His current glucose level is at 109, pretty good, but it may drop fast to 40-50, so I must keep watch.

Every diabetic has one of these at home

To everyone who has a bed to sleep tonight, enjoy it! Get a good stretch, a deep breath, and relax.

Sweet dreams to all of you.

  1. Dear Michael,
May your father’s health improve and may he recover sufficiently from his diabetes! I understand that it is difficult to see someone you care about being so ill for so long.

    Sweet dreams to you too.

    Yours sincerely,

      1. Dear Michael,

You are very welcome. It seems that we have something in common here insofar as I had been a long-term carer for my late mother.
