Daily writing prompt
Do you believe in fate/destiny?

The reason for the question is very simple: if fate or destiny is real, then we don’t have a choice to believe this or not. In this case, even our unbelief in it would be caused by some sort of predestination.

There’s No Easy Alternative

Fate is a two-edged sword. In one hand, it may appease our soul; everything is already settled in the universe’s book, and there’s no reason to worry about our future—it would be useless, after all. But on the other hand, the script can be like one of a tragic drama novel with no happy ending, and we would not like it, nor could we do anything to escape the pages of our life’s book, grab the pen from the author’s hand, and rewrite everything.

There are times I like thinking that everything is already established and that there’s someone pulling the strings of my life. But there are days I like the feeling that I have full control over my life and that I can achieve whatever I want, for it would be just a matter of effort and discipline.

The Big Author

But there’s a theory that I find very interesting. It preaches that at the moment the “big bang” happened, every possibility was already there, and everything that came after it is just a consequence of the complex math going on on that tiny atomic sparkle that gave birth to the universe. It’s a materialistic approach backed by philosophy and endorsed by people like Christopher Hitchens. This would make the Big Bang the biggest author of the universe, the one who wrote not only the script of our lives but orchestrated it along the dance of the stars and the waltz of the galaxies.

Final Thoughts

So, my conclusion is that either there is a higher being who scripted my life, or everything I do and everything that happens to me is just the result of a mysterious, complex mathematical framework written by the physics that brought the universe into existence. Either way, this remains a mystery to me.
